The vase is done in the very desirable matte green glaze and the shape is what we call an "Oil Jar" or tapered shoulder form vase. Zanesville referred to this glaze color as "Matt Green". The vase is rather large as it stands 11 7/8" tall and is 6 3/4" in. The bottom has a diameter of 3 3/4.
The vase depicts a Grecian oil jar or tapered shoulder form shape. It has a wonderful matte green glaze that is uniform throughout. Substantial weight and it is amazing that it has survived all these years without any damage. Got knocked over and are usually chipped. This one is almost as good as the day it was made.
This matte green glaze is. Wonderful in the arts and crafts decorating scheme. These matte glazes were made to compete with Roseville, Rookwood.
Weller, Van Briggle and many other contemporary pottery companies of the day. The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, or chips.
The only issues are the usual tiny glaze. Pops, glaze misses and glaze imperfections as well as you can see the vertical mold lines. This is common with most Zanesville. The vase is unsigned but has a mold number 37 impressed into the sandy colored bottom.
It is shape number 37 according to my Zanesville Pattern line book. This vase when made originally cost. Form and would look just fine in any early matte art pottery collection. I'm sure it would look just fine on that Stickley bookcase.
