Zanesville Pottery Arts and Crafts Floral Vase

  
Offered here is a striking Arts & Crafts-era vase produced by the Zanesville Stoneware Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. It features a highly sought-after deep matte green glaze and a classic ovoid form. The vase is generously sized, measuring approximately 8 7/16 inches in height, with a maximum diameter of 6 1/4 inches at the widest point and a 4-inch diameter base. The design includes an embossed stylized floral motif with a central stem flanked by two elongated leaves, appearing on both the front and back.

The rich matte green glaze complements Arts & Crafts interiors beautifully and closely resembles the well-known cucumber matte green glaze associated with Hampshire Pottery. This pattern and glaze combination is among Zanesville's most recognized and desirable, created to rival similar matte green art pottery produced by contemporaries such as Weller, Teco, Grueby, Roseville, and Hampshire during the early 20th century.

The vase is in excellent overall condition, with no cracks or chips. As is typical for Zanesville pottery, there is light crazing, minor glaze pops, a small glaze skip along the lower edge, and other kiln-related glaze irregularities-common and expected characteristics of period manufacture. While the piece is not hand-signed, the base is impressed with shape number 101, which corresponds directly to Zanesville's catalog and effectively serves as an identifying mark.
