Here is an excellent William J Walley Pottery large decorated Devil mug with a tail like handle. Glaze which highlights the tooling and devil face.

It measures 6 3/4 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches in diameter at the rim, and 6 3/8 inches nose to handle. It is in great condition with only one tiny, barely noticeable glaze flake to one rib on the side, and no other. Chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Vases with carved and tooled decoration are rare.

He used a wide variety of glazes, more than the Grueby or. Potteries to whom his work is often compared. The pottery was located in West Sterling Massachusetts where he began in 1898, making everything by hand. An unusual piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
