Weller Pottery was founded in 1872 by Samuel A. Weller in Fultonham, Ohio, before moving to Zanesville in 1882 to capitalize on the region's rich clay deposits.

Originally a producer of utilitarian crocks and flowerpots, the company transformed into a powerhouse of the American Arts and Crafts movement after introducing the hand-painted, high-gloss Louwelsa line in 1895. Throughout its peak in the early 20th century, Weller employed world-renowned artists like Frederick Rhead and Jacques Sicard, creating iconic styles ranging from metallic luster Sicardo ware to popular molded floral patterns.
