Here is a really nice and early Van Briggle Pottery spade leaf vase in red clay with a matte gray green curdled and coagulated separated glaze. Red clay was only used in 1905, 06, and 07 and makes for beautiful highlighting where the glaze thins over the relief design. It is number 472 in the shape book, designed in 1906, and called "Spade-shaped leaves". It is in great condition with no cracks, firing flaws, or repairs, just some minor glaze flaking on the lower stems and small foot chips.
It measures 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches in diameter at the widest. The firm's double AA box mark is obscured by glaze, only "Brig" is visible. A great glaze on an early vase from the famous Colorado Springs art pottery.
