Van Briggle 1902 Pottery Matte Green Vase Art Nouveau Bronze Metal Overlay
Van Briggle 1902 Pottery Matte Green Vase Art Nouveau Bronze Metal Overlay. Elegant and architecturally inspired, this brilliant bright matte green vase embodies the flowing sophistication of the Art Nouveau movement. Cloaked in a velvety organic matte green glaze, this gently tapered body exudes calm and balance, while the dramatically contrasting dark bronze metal collar showcases a stylized floral motif. It is believed the bronze metal overlay was done by Artus Van Briggle's Rookwood days associate Yosakichi Asano. There have only been a few of sales of bronze overlay pieces and most were bronze bases and all were dated 1904. This is first example we have seen that is from 1902. It was assumed these bronze overlay examples were for the 1904 St. Non-showing factory stilt chip to bottom. No other chips, cracks, damage or repair of any kind. Bottom marked with logo, Van Briggle, 1902, 92-8 and 70. Vase is 7 3/4" tall and 5 1/2" wide.
