Up for consideration is a magnificent Roseville Matte Green Arts & Crafts pottery jardinière / planter, circa 1910. This is an important and rare piece of Roseville, especially in this size.
The jardinière possesses a clean and crisp classic Arts & crafts design with a striking deep matte green color and great patina. It is bulbous in shape with vertical panels and a footed bottom. The piece has an 11 inch opening at the top which widens to 13 1/2 inches at it's widest at the bottom 1/3; And it is a full 10 inches tall. The bottom reads 501/10, the 501 referring to the style and the 10 indicating it's 10 inch height.
I believe that this is about as big as this style jardinière was made. This jardinière is pictured in a circa 1910 Roseville catalogue reprint in the reference book, "Roseville In All It's Splendor" by Jack and Nancy Bomm, pg. I have included a photo of that page. This striking piece is in remarkable condition with one exception. There are no cracks, lines or repairs. But, it is not perfect. There is a 1/2 inch chip on the rim in one place. For those that know pottery, this is not a difficult repair. Please examine the photos as they offer the best description of the piece and it's condition. This pottery jardinière represents a major piece of quality craftmanship by Roseville and a very rare one. (I personally have not seen another). It's size, classic lines and magnificent matte green color and patina make a statement, and will make this an important addition to any pottery collection.
