Here is an excellent, rare, and very early Saturday Evening Girls Paul Revere Pottery plate decorated with 8 yellow chicks and wheat shocks in a band. The design is deeply incised in black against a white ground with a yellow band. A classic design inspired by the book illustrations of Edith Brown. It is signed with the early S.

In a bowl mark, dated 1909, and initialed LS in a rectangle for decorator Lilly Shapiro. It measures 6 1/4 inches in diameter and and has the thick rim of their earliest work. There is a small pit or burst bubble bruise to the rim, see last picture. This plate is otherwise in exceptional condition considering most pieces were intended for use by children, with no cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. A beautiful piece of Arts and Crafts New England art pottery.
