The piece is a called a planter, jardiniere or berry bowl and it is done in a not so so commonly found glaze. The berry bowl is a nice cabinet size as it measures 4 7/16" in diameter and 1 15/16" tall.
The planter or small jardiniere has a round tapered shape like a bowl. It displays a pattern of embossed curled leaves. These leaves start at the top lip and wrap around the edge and extend all the way to the bottom. There are stylized flowers that nestle in between the top leaves and surround the top opening. There are 6 embossed leaved and stylized flowers.
These are set against a most beautiful and hard to find glaze known as lilac or purple. This planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are absolutely no issues to report. This bowl shows very minor wear if any on the inside. The piece is signed on the bottom with Rookwood's reverse "RP" and sunburst logo. There is also the mold number "2098" and Roman numerals "XXVII" for the year of manufacture, 1927.
This is a wonderful Arts & Crafts designed jardiniere. It will look outstanding on that Stickley Arts and Crafts style bookcase. No store lets you out of the building with the merchandise unless it is paid for.
