This vase is done in one of Rookwood's not so commonly found yellow glaze. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 4 15/16" tall and is 3 1/4" at its widest point.
The vase has an great Arts and Crafts shape. It displays a tapered ovoid shape with 3 applied buttress style handles. These handles look like backward 7's as the tail of the handles reach all the way to the bottom forming panels between each handle.
These handles are paneled to each other at the top and bottom. The glaze is a very pleasing mustard yellow matte glaze that is pretty consistent throughout. This glaze is not all that commonly seen. This is a darker mustard yellow and not the bright mustard yellow such as French's mustard. The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks or chips. There is an insignificant tiny glaze nick along the bottom edge. The vase is signed with Rookwood's impressed reverse "RP" and sunburst logo along with the Roman numerals "XXX" for the year of manufacture, 1930. There is also the mold number "2330" impressed under the date along with the 5 hash marks just below the mold number.
This is the mark that represents the 50th anniversary edition as each hash mark represented 10 years. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte art pottery collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts style bookcase. Truly an excellent example in both form and color. CLEMENTS ANTIQUES OF NEW HAMPSHIRE STOREFRONT.
