Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Rookwood Art Pottery Arts & Crafts Period vase, shape #2325, dated 1922. Measures 9 1/2" high with a maximum width of 4 1/2" and the base is 3 1/8 in diameter.

This nice vase has a matte finish and beautiful dusty blue color on the upper body shading to greenish-blue about the mid-section of the vase. There is a pronounced dragonfly design with three molded dragonflies encircling the upper body. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and any crazing is extremely faint. There is one pin-point sized production dimple with glaze skip on one side and three spur marks on the bottom foot ring from production. There is also a hand written a number on the bottom of the vase that I don't know the significance of.

The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.
