Here is a beautiful and rare Merrimac Pottery hand-thrown. Vase decorated with five broad tooled leaves with curled tips. Glazed in a great curdled and feathered semi matte green glaze over a good swelling cylindrical form. Merrimac used a wide variety of glazes, as many as the Grueby or Walley Potteries to whom the work is often compared. The pottery was located in Newburyport Massachusetts and only made art pottery from 1900 to 1908.
Decorator signed with a con-joined EB. It measures 6 1/4 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter at the widest. It is in reasonably good condition considering the scarcity of decorated Merrimac. There are opposing hairlines from the rim going part way down which have been professionally bonded and partially touched up and a few tiny nicks to the leaf edges. A rare and wonderful piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
