Here is a very nice, large Merrimac Pottery two handled wheel thrown bulbous vase with a flared lip and hand pulled handles. Glaze on a classic form. It measures about 4 5/8 inches tall and 8 inches wide across the handles. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, firing flaws, or repairs.
Merrimac used a wide variety of glazes, as many as the Grueby or Walley Potteries to whom the work is often compared. The pottery was located in Newburyport Massachusetts and only made art pottery from 1900 to 1908. Signed with the firms die-stamped sturgeon mark. A beautiful piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery. This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Decorative Pottery & Glassware\Vases".
