This Pinehurst Craft jug was turned in the 1950s by the late dean of North Carolina pottery, Melvin L. Its the perfect combination of a classically thrown NC utilitarian jug, salt glazing, and rich cobalt runs.

This fabulous piece is one of a limited run , as most of these jugs made by ML were fired sans cobalt. The pottery stamp has Pinehurst and only the C of Craft from the complete logo stamp, however, this piece is well documented in several sources see photo from North Carolina Art Pottery by A. The jug is about a quart in size, stands about 9.5 high, and is 16 in circumference. I took photos of the jug in natural light to emphasize how the deep blue cobalt glows and interacts with the gray Mitchfield clay - dappled with its own characteristic peach colored halos.
