16½ Handmade Terracotta Olive Amphora. A likely ancient or antique piece! Add a Mediterranean flair to your home with this large, authentic terracotta olive jar! This 16½ handmade jar is likely an authentic antique that has been repainted to a cool slate blue. This lovely piece has gorgeous curves and chunk handles and would look perfect in a kitchen or hearth!

This jar was likely in the early 20. Century or earlier in either present-day Turkey or Greece. It is typically challenging to date these amphoras, as they are a timeless item. It is likely that this is an antique piece, based on the buildup on the inside and the repair.

As you can see from the photo of the inside of the jar, there looks to have been a hole punched in the jar at some point. This hole perhaps served the purpose as an entry for a spigot to drain the jar of oil. This hole was subsequently filled in with white plaster, and the entire jar given a fresh coat of paint. The residue on the inside of the jar is contrasted with the inner chipping and repair, which shows both the age of the younger repair and much older patina on the terracotta. This jar is in EXCELLENT condition!

Besides the old repair mentioned above, this amphora shows only light signs of use or wear! The jar has some chipping around the lip that has been covered with paint. Height: 16½" (42 cm) Width from handle to handle: 12" (30.5 cm). Your item will come from a pet and smoke-free home.
