A super fine example of arts and crafts pottery from the Grueby Faience Co of Boston produced in the early 1900s. This vase is in the hard to find ochre yellow color with spots of blue scattered around the outside and rim.
The pattern has spade like leaves around the bulbous portion with areas of pooled glaze accumulating on the shoulder. This heavy glaze flowed to the bottom which ultimately had to be ground once taken from the kiln.I believe this heavy glaze is also obscuring the mark of the company on the bottom. There is a shallow indention in the center of the bottom visible in one picture, original to the making.
The vase stands 7 tall, top 2 1/2 diameter and a base 2 3/4 across. There are no chips, cracks, damage, or repairs on this vase.
I will mention that there is crazing on the outside, visible in the pictures. There are also several bubbles in the thick areas of the glaze which have opened during the firing. These are typical and often present on such pieces. No unexpected wear or damage on the ridges of the leaves of the pattern. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description.
