Fine Hampshire Pottery American Arts & Crafts Matte Green Vase, Leaves, Signed
One of the most significant makers of art and crafts pottery in America during the early 20th century, Hampshire Pottery in Keene, New Hampshire became especially well known for its matte green glazes. This superb vase, dating from around 1910, would make a wonderful addition to an advanced collection of Hampshire. The vase, with six molded leaves around the piece, measures 7 inches tall, 4 inches at its widest point, 3 1/4 inches at its mouth, and 3 1/8 inches at its base. On the base, there are the typical Hampshire marks, including the name of the pottery, the shape number 98, and an M in a circle, used from 1904 to 1914 and referring to Cadmon Robertson's wife Emoretta. The vase is in excellent condition, with only a small original firing line on the base (see photo 9) which does nothing to detract from the beauty of the piece.
