Dedham Pottery antique 8 3/4 early rabbit plate blue and white arts & crafts

  

Here is a really nice Dedham Pottery luncheon size rabbit plate. It has deep blue color and fine crackle. It measures 8 3/4 inches in diameter. Marked with only the die-stamped forward facing bunny which would date the plate to 1895-98, before the blue ink stamp.

There are also blue glaze notations, possibly the date it was painted. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws, just some minor orange peel bubbles to the rim and bisque chips to the foot. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red.

This is Hugh's version of Chinese crackleware and was made to keep the firm afloat. A good piece of authentic Dedham pottery.
