Clewell copper pottery vase arts & crafts matte green verdigris patina Weller

  
Here is a very nice Clewell copper-clad pottery tall bulbous bottom vase, a Weller shape, with an unusual all over matte green verdigris patina. Charles Walter Clewell developed a "secret" method for sheathing pottery vases with copper at his Canton Ohio studio beginning in 1906.

By the 1920's he developed a technique to stabilize patinas, copper red and matte blue green. Often the blanks are identifiable from various Ohio potteries, Weller, Owens, Ferrock, etc. This vase measures 10 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at the widest. It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Marked on the bottom with a hand incised Clewell and the number 266.

A good piece with great patina by a lesser known arts & crafts period craftsman.
