Here is a very nice Clewell copper-clad pottery jardiniere form vase with a spectacular brick red to verdigris matte green patina. Charles Walter Clewell developed a "secret" method for sheathing pottery vases with copper at his Canton Ohio studio beginning in 1906. By the 1920's he developed a technique to stabilize patinas, copper red and matte blue green.

Often the blanks are identifiable from various Ohio potteries, Weller, Owens, Ferrock, etc. This vase measures 5 1/2 inches high and 6 1/4 inches in diameter at the widest. There are no cracks, repairs, or firing flaws, just the tiniest copper shrinkage line under the lip.

Marked on the bottom with a hand incised Clewell and the number 440. A good piece with great patina by a lesser known arts & crafts period craftsman.
