BROUWER /MIDDLE LANE Pottery Vase Flame Antique George Ohr Arts & Crafts Era
This is a superb example of his "Fire Painted" or "Flame" ware. Much like George Ohr in his unorthodox approach to both ART and POTTERY, he mixed the clay, threw the pot, glazed each piece, and after that, held each to an open flame to create an individual, unique work of art. A one man operation, and the epitome of the Arts & Crafts ideals. Photos cannot capture the rich caramel glaze with every conceivable iridescent color visible as it changes under different light sources. This miniature cabinet vase measures only 2.5 in height. There are NO cracks, chips, or scratches. Typical of Brouwer's work, this pot is fragile and the clay is brittle. There are professional restorations to a few base nicks. This is expected in all of Brouwer's pottery. Appropriately signed "Flame" and the "fire" mark-- no whale-bone impression as the piece is too small. This miniature is a true masterpiece for the serious Arts & Crafts collector. Thank you for your interest.
