Offered is a substantial early 20th century Arts & Crafts studio pottery chalice, hand-thrown and decorated with a carved grapevine motif. The form is elegant and architectural, standing 9 inches tall with a 4.5 inch diameter bowl and a 3.5 inch base. The proportions give it a strong vertical presence typical of Arts & Crafts and Mission-era decorative pottery. The surface features a mottled copper-green and iron glaze over a dense stoneware body.
The grapevine decoration is hand-carved and slip-accented. Visible wheel rings and a hand-trimmed foot confirm true studio craftsmanship. The piece is notably heavy for its size, consistent with early 20th century stoneware production. There is a visible maker's mark, has not been identified yet. Minor edge wear and small glaze chips consistent with age. Natural firing irregularities Please review all photos carefully.
