American Art Pottery Yellow Ware Bookends-Abraham Lincoln - Arts & Crafts 1910. Large, heavy pair of Abraham Lincoln portrait glazed art pottery bookends. Possibly from Ohio, Pennsylvania, or the American Midwest.
Solid, large and heavy yellowish stoneware. The brownish-red glaze appears to have been applied on the surface and rubbed away allowing the yellow clay body to show through, then covered with a clear semi-matte glaze, overall. This creates a'worn' effect, but the glaze is not worn at all. Some finger prints can be seen on the back of one bookend.
The clay body looks very much like Ohio clay. The glaze has similarities to that of the Frankoma Pottery glazes. I could not find another pair like them on the internet. WEIGHT : 7 lbs 6 oz. No wear to the glazed surfaces.
Some small chips and wear to the back edges and bottoms (see photos). These bookends will be a quality addition to any collection of American Art Pottery and will display beautifully in any decor: Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Americana, Folk Art, Presidential, Eames Era, Shabby Chic, or Contemporary.
