8 Arts & Crafts NEWCOMB COLLEGE POTTERY Cherokee Rose Vase. Offering a gorgeous vase by Anna Frances Simpson for Newcomb College Pottery produced in 1930, the year that Simpson died.
It is glazed a lovely matte periwinkle blue with a band of white and blue Cherokee Roses and a matte light green band around the top. The base and opening at top both have a diameter of 4 1/4. It is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. There are a couple of very tiny nicks at the base which may have been caused during the firing or grinding process. The impressed marks on the bottom indicate that his piece was thrown by Jonathan Browne Hunt and was decorated by Anna Frances Simpson. The shape number is 184 and the date code is SN55 for 1930. Since Simpson died on June 26, 1930, this may have been one of the last pieces she worked on, which is pretty neat. It measures 8" in height and 6 3/4" in diameter at its widest part. The piece weighs about 3 1/4 pounds before packaging and will be double boxed for its protection.
