19th Century French majolica dragon vase Aesthetic Movement / Arts & Crafts

  
A very rare + stunning, huge and heavy 19th century French majolica floor vase depicting a Chinese sky dragon in full 3d relief wrapped around the vase, devouring the sun. Moriage technique as discovered by Christopher Dresser during his travels in Japan c. Deep blue ground with clouds detailing. Typical of the Aesthetic Movement /Arts & Crafts style of the late 19th century. Produced around 1870-80, these are a pretty rare find these days.

Has some slight damage (as can see in one of the images) to one pinnacle of base scrolls and tip of dragon tail.. Not been retouched or repaired, so an option however doesn't detract from the overall look of the piece which is seriously imposing. The detailing around the dragon's head/mouth is just amazing. Try to show this however the photos just don't do it justice. Can also drop off in/around London.

Likewise ok to arrange collection. The piece is around 70cm high and weighs in region of 20kg.
