Roseville Pottery, Large Matt Green Jardiniere For Floor Vase, Arts & Crafts
The item is a very large jardinière and the glaze is done in the very popular and highly collected matte green. This jardinière is quite large as it stands 8" tall and is an impressive 10 1/2" in diameter at its widest point. The foot has a diameter of 5 1/4. This jardinière displays a swollen form with an exaggerated corseted neck. It has 4 applied handles that mock Arts & Crafts cabinet or door strapping.
The glaze is done in a wonderful deep matte green that is quite similar to Weller's Bedford Matt green. I suspect that Weller created the their matt green line to specifically compete with them. I have seen this form used as a floor jardinière and center piece because of its size. The jardinière is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings.
The piece is unsigned but it is a well documented form in the Roseville Matt Green pottery line. Those of you who decorate in the arts and crafts, mission style will surely welcome this accessory into the home. It will also enhance any matte green art pottery collection. This would look outstanding with anyone decorating with Stickley or mission arts and crafts furniture.
