Rare Antique Rookwood Pottery Arts Crafts Vase IX 1909 #925E Trial Glaze Mark    Rare Antique Rookwood Pottery Arts Crafts Vase IX 1909 #925E Trial Glaze Mark

The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, some minor overall crazing and no repairs. This piece is almost 7" tall, 3-1/2" wide at the shoulder, and 2-1/4 wide at the top rim. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 925E and the production year IX (1909). What makes this piece exciting and rare is that the base is also stamped with a Rookwood "experimental glaze" mark, number X2594X, making it truly distinctive since it is not always known which experimental or trial glazes actually made it into production. The vase features a taller, tapered shape with a short, collared rim.

This gorgeous trial glaze is a matte, pale yellow buff underglaze with a grayish, olive-green crystalline overdrip that has curdled beautifully on the piece and also exhibits different shades of red and brown. The thickness of the rutile overglaze varies on the vase exposing the yellow underneath. There are glaze pops and misses with small glaze rubs or flakes on the top rim and on the bottom of the inside.

One glaze drip on the base rim has been ground flat. Different light captures a number of variations of color and texture in the glaze finish.

There is some very-minor scuffing in the glaze from gentle use, but it is relatively clean. Check out all 10 photos! This gorgeous piece is truly a Rookwood collector's dream item and would look amazing in your favorite display cabinet.

It would also be perfect for any American art pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings! Please let me know if you have questions. The item "Rare Antique Rookwood Pottery Arts Crafts Vase IX 1909 #925E Trial Glaze Mark" is in sale since Monday, March 25, 2019.
