Iowa State College Pottery Ames arts & crafts 5 green over yellow glaze vase

  

Here is a very nice Iowa State College Pottery vase glazed in a semi matte green over yellow. The pottery was located in Ames IA. Cox was potter at Newcomb from 1910 1918. He was at Iowa State College Ceramics Department in Ames Iowa from 1920 1930.

In 1924 Cox brought in Mary Yancey, also from Newcomb, to be an instructor in the ceramic engineering department. She later moved to Massachusetts where she was one of the founders of Clay Craft Studios. (Mary Hodgdon) In 1934 she moved to California to succeed Glen Lukens at Fullerton Junior College teaching ceramics. Pottery was made from 1920 to 1930. Marked with the ISC Ames circular die-stamp and a con-joined AWWA (unknown). It measures 5 1/8 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter at the widest. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or firing flaws or repairs. A beautiful piece of Mid-Western Arts & Crafts art pottery.
