Here is a very nice antique tile made by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. It depicts a jousting knight on horseback in relief with creamy yellow and blue glaze over the red clay body.
Founded by Henry Chapman Mercer in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1898, the pottery continued operation after Mercer's death in 1930 until sometime in the 1950s. Reproductions of Mercer's original designs were introduced by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation in 1976.This tile measures about 7 1/4 inches wide, 4 1/2 inches high, and about 3/4 inch thick, 10 1/2" by 13" framed in vintage oak frame. It has minor chips and glaze flakes which are not distracting and no cracks, firing flaws, or repairs.
It retains the original felt backing for use as a trivet and is unmarked. The item "Antique Mercer Tile Moravian Pottery Works jousting knight horse arts & crafts" is in sale since Tuesday, January 28, 2020.
