Oil Painting of Pike's Peak by Amelia B Sprague 1936. Impressionistic in style, the colorful painting has a light and airy feeling of what looks to be summertime in the Rockies. I have owned this painting for approximately 20 years and have finally found an appropriate period frame for the picture. After finding the frame, I had it professionally cleaned and varnished and is now ready to hang. Signed LL,'A B Sprague' and with hand written title, date, address and signature on backside.
An easy to live with painting for your collection or Arts and Crafts interior. Size : 8" Height // 10" Wide // Frame adds 1/2 around. Biography : I haven't been able to find much about the artists life story. She was born in 1870 and was most notably a pottery painter/decorator for Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Note : Ive been informed that this painting is not a view of Pikes Peak, but a view of Longs Peak, also in Colorado.
After comparing the two peaks, I believe this to be the case and the notation on the backside to be incorrect. With all those high peaks in Colorado, Im going to give the notes creator a pass. From a non-smoking, pet-free home.
